Zonal acupuncture

What is zonal acupuncture?

It is a very simple highly effective acupuncture system, surely the simplest that exists so far.
Developed in China by a neurologist in the aviation army.
There it is known as wrist and ankle acupuncture, but, in Western countries, thinking that it was a system to exclusively treat wrist and ankle problems, it has been called “Zoneal Acupuncture”
It is a system that divides the body into 6 vertical zones (similar to Fitzgerald’s theory in foot reflexology, but this divides it into 10). In addition, the body is divided into two more zones, one upper and one lower.
These 12 zones in total (6 in the upper part and 6 in the lower part), with their different structures, such as tendons, muscles, ligaments, fascias, viscera and organs, are reflected in 6 points in the wrists and ankles, so that using For example, point number 1 on the ankle treats all the structures that fall within this area.
Here we are not talking about 5 elements, neither diagnosis of pulses nor of languages, so when choosing the point it is done based on the client’s symptomatology, in addition the necessary points can be added according to our way of understanding the body and client status, that’s why it’s so easy to use.
This acupuncture system also facilitates the fact that we do not need the client to remove their clothes.
It is a very easy acupuncture with very fast effects. It works directly on the stimulation of the nervous system.

How is the zonal acupuncture technique?

It is an acupuncture in which a superficial subcutaneous needle is used, therefore it should not be painful. The needle is inserted for about 45 minutes and remove it,but also  there is the possibility of covering it with a plaster and that the client wears it, to remove it for us, or for himself a few days later.

Other advantages of zonal acupuncture

In addition to the ease with which it is used, that great theories of Chinese medicine are not needed, such as that of the 5 elements, their control cycles, etc. and that it is not necessary to apply theories of syndromes, one of the advantages is that It has great synergy with other techniques, such as:
-Foot reflexology (to treat the affected  organs also with a needle at the corresponding point  )
-Massage / physiotherapy. It is used as a complement to treat acute and chronic pain of muscles, fascia and tendons.
-Other acupuncture systems, because there is a great synergy, especially with auriculotherapy, manoacupuncture, facial therapy, cranioacupuncture…
It can also complement other types of therapies such as naturopathy, homeopathy…

And most importantly, what is the only thing that can be treated with zonal acupuncture?

We can treat different discomforts, it is a very effective technique to treat pain, to the point that in some hospitals it has been used in palliative care for terminally ill patients.

But, we can put some list in which this system is frequently used:

  • Prevention in sport.
  • Contractures, muscle pain
  • Tendinitis
  • Headache/ migraines
  • Irritable bowel
  • Constipation
  • Hemorrhoids
  • Laryngitis
  • Mastitis
  • Facial paralysis
  • Trigeminal neuralgia
  • Sciatica / Low back pain
  • Bursitis
  • Renal colic
  • Vertigo.

It is a great investment for any therapist because it has a very good relationship between the effectiveness of the results, the ease of application and the speed of learning that is needed to have good results.
